Porters is a mobile application that simplifies eco-friendly urban commuting by offering electric bicycle rentals. Designed with a user-first approach, the app enables users to discover nearby EV bicycles, book rides with ease, scan QR codes to start riding, and manage their trip history—all within a beautifully designed, intuitive interface.

Context

With urban populations growing rapidly, short-distance travel often becomes time-consuming due to traffic congestion and a lack of sustainable mobility options. Porters was envisioned to provide a green, efficient, and easy-to-use alternative for city dwellers, tourists, and daily commuters looking for a more agile way to travel through urban spaces.

Overview

The goal of the Porters app was to design a platform that allows users to:

  • Discover nearby EV bicycles
  • Set pickup location and desired schedule (date/time)
  • Choose from a list of available bicycles
  • View detailed information about each option
  • Make secure payments
  • Start rides via QR code scanning
  • Manage bookings, including cancellations and refunds
  • Track ride history and upcoming rides

The design also includes a smooth onboarding experience and a clean, responsive interface focused on ease of use and visual appeal.

Challenge

  3. Designing a real-time location-based search system for nearby EV bicycles
  4. Ensuring a fast, one-step QR code ride initiation process
  5. Displaying complex data like refunds, cancellations, and ride history in a user-friendly way
  6. Creating a design that feels both modern and approachable to a wide demographic

Solution

To tackle the challenges, the following design solutions were implemented:

User-Centric Onboarding: A set of onboarding screens introducing app features and benefits to guide new users.

Location-Based Search: A smart home screen with location detection and manual address entry to fetch nearby EV bicycles.

Streamlined Booking Flow: Date and time selectors, clean listing pages, and minimal steps for booking ensure a frictionless experience.

QR Code Ride Start: Users can scan a QR code on the bicycle to instantly unlock and begin their ride.

Full Ride Management Suite: Users can cancel bookings, track upcoming rides, monitor refund status, and view ride history.

Minimalist UI: The interface emphasizes whitespace, soft shadows, and clean typography to ensure clarity and modernity.

Results
